Indian New Year 2080 was welcomed in Varanasi. In the Mangalam program on New Year at Shankaracharya Ghat, the Batukas welcomed the new year with Surya Namaskar. To welcome the new year 2080, the chalk-crossings, streets and localities of the city were decorated with the om marked saffron flag from Tuesday itself. Even before Chaitra Pratipada Vikram Samvat 2080, the main roads shining with saffron aura were showing their uniqueness. Greeting banners, alpanas and rangolis were made at various places.
On Tuesday, on the eve of Hindu New Year, under the auspices of Shrilat Bhairav Bhajan Mandal, lamps were decorated on both sides of the road in areas like Tulsidas Marg, Teliana, Hanuman Phatak etc.
From noon itself, the enthusiastic youth of the area started the work of decorating lamps with the help of the general public. Mahant Ramdas of Ram Janaki temple inaugurated the Deepotsav by lighting the lamp in the temple premises.
In no time, the dark night of Amavasya lit up with the sattvic light of the lamp. In the Shri Ram Janaki temple, artists presented Pachra etc. Devi songs on the tune of Chaiti.
